The keeping of parrots has to be reported to public authority and there are legal requirements regarding housing aviary conditions.
So for macaws are no longer a pure in house keeping is allowed. There is a shelter and an adjacent aviary prescribed. Depending on the animals kept there are detailed guidelines for the minimum sizes.
To offer the beautiful birds as much movement as possible and activity opportunities, our new building is built a lot bigger than prescribed.

Pen:
Parrots are normally try to gnaw nearly everything which is possible. For the Parrots pen you should avoid when ever possible open wood surfaces. Free edges have to be protected with a steel or aluminium profile, otherwise they are gnawed down soon.
At the inside the room should be tiled. Then it is easy possible to keep it clean. Another benefit is, in an emergency case it is easy possible to disinfect the room.
You should not forget the dark season. The birds are coming from countries where it is always 10 - 12 hours of daylight and with sufficient sunlight. Therefore the pen should be very light and a bird lamp should be used, which emits UV light to avoid a lack for the birds in the winter time.
Feed:
Parrots are very selective regarding the feeding. To this subject you can find a lot of literature, which you should reed before you procure such a bird.
Breeding:
At the moment we are not breeding parrots and we don't have any activities in this direction. We just have it for fun.
